NAAMAN'S HOUSE

The heart of our ministry is a Christ centered recovery house where we serve up to 10 men in their efforts to break the bonds of addiction. In the house the men encounter a safe and structured environment for spiritual growth, study, work and a 12 step recovery program lasting 12 months. There is no charge to the men during these 12 months. Some of our graduates choose to stay involved in continuing their growth while giving back to the community and Naaman's.

Our program is inspired by the monastic rule of "prayer and work"

  • STRUCTURED SPIRITUAL COMMUNITY

  • REGULAR BIBLE STUDY

  • 12 STEP PROGRAM

  • DEVELOPMENT OF EXISTING WORK AND LIFE SKILLS

  • COMMERCIAL EXPERIENCE IN OUR THRIFT STORE

  • VOCATIONAL TRAINING IN OUR SCREENPRINTING AND EMBROIDERTY SHOP

  • SERVICE TO THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS WITH LOCAL NONPROFITS

WHAT WE PRAY YOU WILL LEARN

Through our experience serving men struggling with addiction and leading them in discipleship with Jesus, we have come to see ten areas of critical learning. These ten things are keys to discipleship in Christ, learning to function effectively within the world as ambassadors of Christ and finding joy through Christ in the midst of the struggles of this life. These ten critical learnings are:

1.Learn to love God – the first and greatest commandment

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Words of Jesus, Matthew 22:37.

 2. Learn to love others

“And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself." – Words of Jesus, Matthew 22:39.

And Jesus stepped it up a notch when he said:

" A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another."– Words of Jesus, John 13:34.

And then this:

“But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." – Words of Jesus, Matthew 5:44.

3. Learn to forgive yourself and others

This is often the one of the biggest roadblocks to recovery, forgiving yourself for the failures of the past and forgiving others for the wrongs committed toward you.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” – 1 John 1:9.

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” – Words of Jesus, Matthew 6:14-15.

4. Learn to enjoy work and experience God through work

We spend over half our waking hours working during this life. God is a working God and we see that through His creation every day. Work is a means of worship and experiencing God.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,” – Colossians 3:23.

5. Learn to be content

What does it mean to be content? Consider that you are hungry and you sit down to eat.  You are not satisfied so long as you are hungry.  But you can be content and savor the taste of every bite.

So, it is also with our journey in life.  Our ultimate goal is to spend eternity with God and nothing here on earth in this lifetime can satisfy that desire.  But we can be content in the joy that is a life lived in Christ.  We can be content with every circumstance as it is only a tiny morsel in the communion meal that we enjoy with Christ.

“The fear of the Lord leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.” – Proverbs 19:23.

6. Learn humility (how to be humble)

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” – Philippians 2:3-4.

7.  Learn to submit (to God, to authority, in relationship)

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” – James 4:7.

8. Learn to trust in discipline (correction through consequences and also self-discipline, but not self-reliance)

“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.” – Words of Jesus, Revelation 3:19.

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7.

9. Learn to function in this world (though, not of the world)

This may encompass many things: from learning to be on time to learning to balance a checkbook; learning to listen to learning the importance of saving; learning to pick your battles to picking a good mentor.

10. Learn to be grateful

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
